Therapy for Teens

Empowering Teens to Thrive

During adolescence, teens and adolescents face many unique challenges that can be overwhelming for both themselves and their parents. The emotional and behavioral changes that accompany this transformative stage of life often leave families feeling confused and uncertain. As a counselor, I firmly believe in the power of collaboration and teamwork to overcome these obstacles. By closely partnering with both teenagers and their parents, I am able to gain a comprehensive understanding of their individual needs and concerns. This holistic approach allows me to develop tailored treatment plans to address the specific issues at hand. Through open communication and a strong therapeutic alliance, we work together to navigate the complexities of adolescence, offering support, guidance, and strategies for growth and healing.

Hi, I’m Matty

I’m a counselor in Boulder, Colorado specializing in therapy for teenagers and young adults. I believe that everyone has the power to shape their life story, find hope and purpose, and navigate the unique challenges they face. My approach to therapy combines two evidence-based approaches, Narrative Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), to help my clients overcome adversities and build resilience.

I believe that therapy should be a safe and supportive space where clients feel heard, validated, and respected. My goal is to create a non-judgmental and compassionate environment where clients can explore their feelings, thoughts, and behaviors without fear of criticism or shame.

As parents, we’ve seen a remarkable transformation in our daughter. She has become more self-assured and resilient. Matty’s guidance and expertise has not only benefited her but our entire family.

A little more about me

  • I use a humanistic approach, understanding that each person has unique qualities and strengths. I like to help clients use these unique qualities and strengths to better understand themselves, their world, and how they can build confidence, self-esteem, and self-efficacy. No matter the struggles we face, no matter the pieces of ourselves that we wish to change, we are enough, and with the right help, we can overcome and persevere.

  • The last couple of years have been rough, and the pandemic has made it harder and harder to connect. I currently offer both teletherapy and in-person counseling at the Boulder Healing Hub.

  • I got my start working in schools, teaching everything from kindergarten to middle school. When I was teaching 4th and 5th graders in Denver, I noticed a huge lack of mental health support for kids, so I went back to school to become a counselor. Even now, working as a high school counselor, I notice that these kids still lack critical support for their mental health, and I’m hoping to do everything I can to help fill that gap.

  • I am a licensed psychotherapist, an LPCC, and a licensed school counselor. I am also a certified specialist in anxiety and stress management, trauma and crisis management, and grief and loss.
